"Best Day Ever" for Power Poppy's Pencil Challenge.....

Hello again, everyone: Today I'm sharing a card that I made for the Power Poppy "Can you Pencil Me In" Challenge for the month of June. You can check it out HERE .

The challenge asks us to color our images using pencils so, I grabbed my Prismacolors , paper stumps and baby oil and this is the card I made.
This image from the set "Best Day Ever" and I chose to make a shaker card with it. The problem is that, when I filled the shaker with the sand, the static was so bad that it covered the entire surface, the sand just wouldn't go to the bottom so, I empty it and tried washing it with soap, shampoo and rubbing it with the Embossing Buddy with absolutely no luck. I knew I wanted to still use the sand and shells, which by the way, are from Panama City, FL. from the last Spring Break vacation my hubby and I took with our 5 grandchildren back in 2012.
Anyway, since nothing was working to prevent the sand to sticking to the window, I decided to glue it to the card so, I applied some Crystal Effects with a brush onto the image and poured the sand on it and then, I put a bit on the back of the shells to keep them in place.
I hope you can see the sand in this picture. I also put some Crystal Effects on the sun glasses, I also hope this picture shows that.
The sentiment comes in this set, I think it's funny all of this new words young people are using now a days.
The DSP is from a very old pad I bought at Hobby Lobby a long time ago, I was lucky to find this whole page in that stash.
I hope you like this card, it surely took me back to those glorious days with our grandkids, walking on the beach, collecting shells, and watching them run to us to show their finds of "never seen before" treasures.  We feel so grateful to have this children so close to us and to have this wonderful memories when they were little and we had them all to ourselves, grandpa and grandma sure felt awesome.
I want to thank you for visiting and for your comments.
Have a great day.
Maria.

Oh boy! You really captured a beach vacation with this set adding your authentic sand & shells from your own retreat! Now hopefully someone will chime in and give us all a tip on anti-static shaker cards! I love it!

Thanks my friend, as soon as I saw this set, this little bag of sand and shells from those days long ago, popped into my mind. I really wished the sand wouldn't have stuck to the inside of the window.

Really really cute ! I have one of your special shaker cards with sand that you sent me last year and I have it out on my wide window sill on display . I think you need to do a book my friend on coloring ! You are truly talented !!

Maria, how pretty! I haven't colored this one yet. You did such a beautiful job, and you made it even more special with the sand. What a brilliant idea! Even more fabulous than a shaker, I think! I think this sentiment is so cute. Love that you shared this in our Pencil Me in Challenge at Power Poppy!

What a wonderful card and story to go with it! Love the sand and shells! I know just how you feel about those grandchildren. They can make us feel so loved and special. Those of us that can spend lots of time with them are very blessed!

Thank you Bonnie, this card is indeed so special, having our grandchildren living so close to us, (2 of them just next door and the other 3 just about 15 min. away), is certainly fabulous.

Maria - could you go over the STEPS on how you use your water color pencils like you did with the watercoloring aqua pens. I would really love to know how the procedure and how you get such FINE images. Thanks so much.

Hello Charlene: I didn't use water color pencils on this card, I use my Prismacolor pencils and paper stumps with baby oil. This technique is so easy and fun to do, the pencils blend really great when you apply the baby oil with the paper stumps. It's kind of like water coloring, you just apply the pencil and shade with the stumps.
I hope this helps.

What a great idea, Maria! Now you should make a little shadow box for your authentic and awesome beach card and put it somewhere you will see it often as a constant reminder of those happy times! You are so blessed to have so many (and be close to the beach!) to share good times with! There is nothing better than being a grandparent!! Hugs, Darnell
